Gareth is a long time client of mine, and this project was a little gift he made for his dad. His dad worked as a doctor in South Africa, and wrote a book about his experiences there. The book is quite dark, quite witty, and quite unsightly. Sound like my kinda gig? YUP.
Designing the main imagery
It was really important to have a striking image for the front cover of this book. The content is so bizarre, and draws you in in such as unassuming way, that it needed to be something that looked different on second inspection.
And so, the "dethoscope" was born! (can I trademark that?)
With the central design element done, the rest was simply creating an atmosphere of a journal around the book. Simple colours, simple font, but a tribute to a life of fascinating stories...
